Product Tested:
Bass Pro Excel line vs. Trilene XL
Rating: Very good buy
Test Date(s) - 4/98 to present
As a professional fishing guide and tournament angler, I am always looking for a better product or a way to get more bang for my buck. Like most of you, I work hard for my money. Therefore, I am always on the lookout for a better value. And this is one that I think you will like.
I have been using various mono fishing lines over the course of my fishing career, with varying degrees of success. I started out around 1980 when I re-entered the fishing world, using Trilene Xl line. It worked fine for a couple of years, and then I began experiencing some problems with it. Line memory and failure were the two big problems. So, I switched to Stren for a couple of years. Worked fine, then the same types of problems. I also tried a few other brands of line off and on. Same type of results. So I switched back to Trilene and used it pretty much for the next 10 - 12 years. Then a fellow fishing guide told me he really liked the characterisics of Bass Pro's Excel line. I gave it a try and have been using it ever since.
Advantages: Very Similar characteristics to XL
Less than 1/2 the cost
Disadvantages: Limited color selection
